The fate of the Walkman that was popular in the era of the 1980s and 1990s eventually ended up in the middle of onslaught of digital music players. Sony finally decided to stop production of the Walkman cassette player from 22 October 2010.
According to the latest data reported by Sony, the last stock is produced in Japan in April 2010 and is now just waiting for the supplies run out. Still, the Walkman cassette player will still be produced partners Sony in China to meet consumer demand for the faithful to use tapes and a Walkman.
Ironically, the announcement of cessation of production of the Walkman done the day before the anniversary of the iPod, digital music players made by Apple. iPod which was introduced on October 23, 2001 was a milestone in the rise of digital music and became one of great power that displace the Walkman.
Walkman first produced in 1979 and became a popular music player. Over the past three decades, 220 million Walkman has been sold worldwide. Although there was no longer a Walkman cassette player, Sony is still producing a CD player / mini disc and MP3 Walkman brand. Sony also uses the Walkman name to support the music featured on the Sony Ericsson.
